Land grabs threaten to destroy the fading dynasty
Synopsis
When the huge Lawson cattle station has no heir, rival factions in Australia see a chance to take control. The series was filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia in places so remote that they are barely inhabited, let alone shown on screen. Locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, with special permission from the traditional owners, and Tipperary Station, a real-life, working cattle station so large it has its own airport and school.
Which could make for a nice landscape drama
There are shows that you start watching and have high expectations for. This show is about a family who owns a large amount of land in the outback of Oz. The land and its charisma are sadly ruined by extremely poor writing.
They try but the characters fail to form a family that you engage with
It is way too dramatic, has characters that are borderline caricatured and there are too many completely unbelievable things that happen. While as a viewer you want to be swept up in a story about a family that has characters with depth and complexity. There is too much crime and drama that happens which again is poorly written.
There is a foundation with the scenario and a good cast that they can build on
Apparently people are shooting, robbing and hurting each other all the time in the great land down there. So I really wanted to like it but the writers have made this a second rate cop show that despite some great actors doesn’t deserve a high rating. However I will have hope for a second season if they tone down a lot of the drama and violence and let some smart people take care of the writing.
